Description
Hatfield College office building is a house dating from around 1700. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and features a Lakeland slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and has six irregular bays. The third bay contains a half-glazed double door set in an architrave, which is framed by a Greek Doric porch. The entablature above the porch is decorated with triglyphs and guttae. The sash windows, most of which have been renewed, include some with glazing bars and are topped with flat stone lintels and supported by projecting stone sills. The building also features two brick floor bands, an eaves band, and a cornice. The double-span roof has slightly swept eaves and end brick chimneys.
Inside, the Alnwick room is notable for its panelled walls, a chimney piece with a cornice, and quartrefoil columns at the north end with leaf capitals. The stucco ceiling centerpiece is adorned with acanthus leaves, encircled by oak leaves.
