Description
Byre House, located 10 metres east of the east end of Laithkirk Church, is a former byre with domestic accommodation above, now used for storage. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of rubble with sandstone dressings, featuring a stone-flagged roof and a stone chimney stack.
The building is two storeys high and has two bays with flush quoins. The west side, which is partly built into the bank, has a boarded first-floor door with a flush lintel. The north gable end features a pair of large boarded doors set in a flush surround, while the south gable has a boarded opening with a flush lintel and sill. The east side includes a central hit-and-miss window with a boarded opening above. There is an end stack on the south side, complete with a top ledge and water table.
Inside, the lime-washed first-floor room contains a small stone fireplace with an iron grate against the south gable wall. The building is included for its group value.
