Description
Church View is a house that was formerly an inn, now divided into two dwellings. It consists of two sections built in the late 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of squared stone with cut dressings and features a stone slate roof.
The east elevation has two storeys and four bays, with the left two bays being part of the original house, which has visible end quoins. There is a part-glazed four-panel door in the third bay and various sash windows, all set in raised stone surrounds, except for a small four-pane ground-floor sash on the far left, which is set into the blocking of an older doorway. The right end gable is coped and has moulded kneelers, with stacks at the ridge and right end. The right return features a central twelve-pane sash in a raised stone surround, below a blocked attic window with old iron bars in a flush surround. The rear elevation displays various sash windows.
The building is included for its group value. The attached outbuildings to the southeast and a porch added in 1977 on the north end are not of special interest.
