Description

The level arch and retaining wall, located 25 metres south of the mine shop at Coldberry Mine in Middleton in Teesdale, is a Grade II listed structure likely built in the mid-19th century for the London Lead Company. It is constructed from irregular coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings. The retaining wall is S-shaped and approximately 2 metres high, featuring a segmental-headed arch with voussoirs that project in a curve on the left side. On the right side, a receding curve surrounds a blocked mine shaft to the southwest. The wall is topped with block coping.
