Description

The Tomb of Dean Kitchin is a headstone located on the west side of Palace Green in Durham, dating from around 1912. It was signed by W. Bromilly from Keswick. The tomb commemorates G.W. Kitchin, who served as the Dean of Durham from 1894 to 1912 and was the first Chancellor of Durham University. The structure features an ashlar cross with a wide tapered shaft and a round cross head adorned with an interlace pattern. The inscription on the tomb includes the dates of Dean Kitchin's residences at Winchester and Durham. This tomb is included for its historical interest.
