Description
This building is an outbuilding located south of Messenger House, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins, topped with a Welsh slate roof that features stone gable coping. The structure has three storeys and is one bay wide, with the ground sloping down to the right.
On the front, there is a boarded Dutch door on the right, which is set beneath a flat stone lintel. To the left, there is a boarded window with a similar lintel and a projecting stone sill at ground level. Above, on the first floor, there is a loft door that is also boarded, along with a smaller second-floor window that has a slatted lower part and upper glazing bars, though it is currently without glass and boarded on the inside. Large sandstone blocks form a double parabola around this opening, likely having supported a hoist in the past.
At the rear, which is on higher ground, there is a two-storey section featuring double boarded vehicle doors set in alternate-block jambs under a flat stone lintel. Additionally, there is a stone shelf and blocked pigeon holes in the gable peak above the boarded loft opening. This outbuilding is included for its group value with Messenger House.
