Description

Orchard House is a house, originally an inn, dating to the mid-18th century with extensions added in the early 19th century. The original part is constructed of coursed rubble, which is whitewashed, with dressings, and has a slate roof and rebuilt yellow brick stacks. The main section is two storeys high with two wide bays. It has a renewed central door within a stone surround, and small-pane iron-framed casement windows with stone surrounds (the lower windows have 54 panes, the upper have 45). The gables are coped and there are end stacks. To the right is a two-storey, two-bay section from the early 19th century, characterised by margined sash windows with 16 panes on each window and tooled lintels with slightly-projecting sills. This section has a coped gable with a brick stack. The rear elevation includes a contemporary outshut and a rear wing to the 18th-century part of the house.
