Description
Clove Lodge Farmhouse, along with its attached byre/stables to the west and sheds to the east, dates primarily to the late 18th century, with a mid-19th century cottage addition and early 19th century farmbuildings. The farmhouse and sheds are constructed of dressed sandstone, while the byre/stable is of squared rubble. All buildings have stone-flagged roofs and stone chimney stacks.
The farmhouse is composed of a two-storey, three-bay main block and a two-storey cottage to the right. The main block features a central, gabled mid-19th century porch with a replaced door. It has replaced four-pane sash windows in tooled, flush surrounds. The central bay above the porch is blank, flanked by identical windows. The original doorway, now within the porch, retains a flush surround and projecting keystone. The two-storey cottage has flush quoins to the right side and features a six-panel door with a three-pane overlight, alongside a replaced twelve-pane sash window. A 12-pane sash window sits above, matching the style. The roof has coped gables and a coping at the junction. Stepped and corniced end and ridge stacks are present.
The two-storey, three-bay byre/stable, including a loft, has flush quoins. A Dutch door is positioned on the left side, while the right side has scattered openings including two four-pane sashes and a partly-glazed hit-and-miss ventilator. The roof has a low pitch and a coped left gable. Several courses of through stones are visible on the left return.
A single-storey, three-bay range of sheds, attached to the rear of the right return of the cottage, includes a 20th-century double door in the left bay and a boarded and Dutch door to the right.
