Description

The Principal’s Residence at the University of South Wales, located on the Caerleon Campus, is a two-storey house built in a mixed Revival style using Old Red Sandstone rubble with Bath stone dressings. It features a continuous cill course, hipped slate roofs, deep eaves, and ashlar chimney stacks. The sash windows have upper lights with small panes and large single pane lower lights.

The building has an ‘L’ shaped plan, with the main entrance front facing northeast and consisting of three bays. The central entrance is framed by a Bath stone surround and a canopy, with a narrow paired window and a raised wreath panel above. The southwest elevation, which is the ‘garden’ side, has two projecting full-height bays, followed by two bays set back to the right, and then another two bays to the right. This section includes a boarded door with an overlight offset to the right and a small side window to the left, along with a single bay at the extreme left and a full-height bay to the right featuring a plain window on the ground floor and a Bath stone window on the first floor. There is also a single ground floor window in the southeast elevation. The northeast elevation consists of eight bays, with a full-height bay to the right, followed by three full-size windows and four narrow windows that are irregularly spaced. On the ground floor, there is a ‘shopfront’ with a door on the right side within the three left-hand bays and two small windows to the right.

The building has not been inspected.
