Description

The Lawns is an Italianate villa constructed from Bath-stone ashlar, featuring a shallow-pitched Welsh slate roof with deep eaves and a dentilled cornice. The building has rusticated quoins and cornice bands between the floors. Most windows are boarded up, but where visible, they are sash windows. The villa stands two storeys high with a cellar and includes a three-storey porch tower.

The symmetrical design showcases a three-bay south front with central windows flanked by canted bays. The central first-floor window is tripartite with a cambered head, while the ground floor features a square-headed window with a prominent keystone. The bay windows have long lights and shouldered architraves.

On the left (west) side, there is a panelled chimney breast extending over two storeys and a three-storey belvedere tower topped with a pyramidal slate roof, which also has dentilled eaves and a bracketed cornice band below. The windows on this side are cambered-headed, with paired long windows on the upper stage, two windows on the middle stage facing south, and a single window facing west with a tall keystone. The ground floor has three close-set windows, each with prominent keystones, and to the south is a tall entrance doorway with a shouldered architrave and keystone.

The left rear (northwest) has a single window range. The right (east) elevation features a single-storey three-window bay, above which is a chimney breast, two windows, and an advanced bay with a window on each floor. The rear includes another bay with a single square-headed window on each floor. There are 20th-century flat-roofed extensions at the rear.
