Description
The former Odeon Cinema, now known as Capones Night Club, is a building designed in the 1930s Modernist style with Art Deco influences. It features red-brown and brown brickwork with channelling, along with extensive buff and black faience work. The entrance has a rounded corner with a canopy, and above it is a tall, narrow brick fin with vertical ribbing. To the left of the entrance, facing Clarence Place, the elevation is predominantly faience with strip windows on three levels; at the left end, there is a recessed exit block with a tall window. To the right of the entrance, there is a projecting D-plan turret with a flat roof, a band of windows at the eaves, and three round windows facing Clarence Place. The side and rear elevations are constructed in brick, with red-brown brick above a brown brick ground floor.
During its conversion to a new use, much of the original detailing from the 1930s has been removed, although some remains in the foyer area.
