Description
West Barn at Three Stones Farm is a 19th-century structure built from roughly coursed and squared sandstone rubble, topped with a pantiled roof that has been partially replaced by corrugated asbestos sheeting, particularly along the eaves. This alteration suggests that the barn may have originally featured lower courses of stone slates.
The main elevation facing the farmyard is partly obscured but includes, from the left, a likely added cart shed with wide timber doors beneath a timber lintel, along with a boarded window above for the hayloft or granary. Following this, there are two slit vents for the barn, then boarded cart doors leading to the threshing floor, and finally a cowshed that also has slit vents for the hayloft above.
While the interior was not examined during the resurvey, the exterior indicates that the cart shed is separated from the barn, which is likely composed of five bays and features a tallet over the cowshed at the northern end.
