Description

The North Stable Range at Llangybi Castle Farm is a two-storey building rendered throughout, likely over local sandstone rubble, with a concrete interlocking tile roof and a red brick chimney. The structure has a balanced front, although the east end has been altered with late 20th-century windows and an extension. The central entrance features an elliptically headed arch, flanked by five bays on either side. The left side remains unaltered, showcasing four cross framed casements and a central doorway with a panelled door. The ground floor is smooth rendered up to a band at lintel level, above which are five bullseyes with doveholes. Above the archway is a casement window with 4 + 4 panes set in an arched recess. On the right side, the first two windows, the door, and three bullseyes remain unchanged, while the last two bays have been modified with modern small paned doors and windows. The roof is hipped over the entire structure, featuring a single off-centre stack. A two-bay extension with a lower roofline and modern features is located at the right-hand gable. The gables and the rear elevation are mostly blind, except for the bullseyes.

Inside, the stables retain their Victorian fittings, including looseboxes, stalls, and tiled floors. The ceiling displays remnants of plasterwork from around 1700. The entrance is supported by two beams with quarter round mouldings on the chamfers. The kennels have mostly been converted for domestic use. The upper level contains attics for doves, featuring large span principal rafter roofs with collars, ties, three tiers of purlins, a ridge piece, and secondary rafters, all intact.
