Description
The Stable Range at Blaenpant is a two-storey structure built from coursed eroded Cilgerran stone, topped with a graded slate roof and featuring truncated stone end stacks. The building has seven windows and a central gable with renewed eaves brackets. The gable includes an arched opening, while the first floor boasts seven arched openings, consisting of six short arch-headed windows and a broader blank semi-circular recess in the centre. Above the ground floor, there is a raised stone shelf.
The ground floor contains three bays of stables on each side, each stable fitted with two 20th-century eight-pane sash windows and a central door, all adorned with cut-stone voussoirs and keystones. The doors are ledged with overlights above. The centre features a blank arched recess with a raised surround, moulded capitals, a raised arch, and a keystone. The southwest end gable has been partly rebuilt using block and includes two loft windows.
To the left, there is an added low single-storey range with a small window and three doorways, each framed with cut-stone voussoirs and stone piers in between. The leftmost door leads to a through passage, while the other two provide access to loose boxes. Further left, a rubble stone wall features an elliptical arched cart entry, a flat parapet, and a 20th-century single-pitch roof behind.
At the rear, the stable has a two-storey outshut with three windows on the first floor. The northeast end has a ground floor door, two windows, and another door and window arrangement. The northeast two-storey wing includes an end chimney and one window on each floor facing southwest. Beyond this, there is a single-storey stone addition that was formerly a pig kitchen.
Inside, the first floor features four oak trusses on each side, some of which are scarfed, with two pegged collars per truss. There are triple oak purlins and oak rafters, along with a stone centre wall that has a blocked doorway in the middle and another doorway to the left. The ground floor southwest stable showcases four massive oak beams, a fireplace with a stone hood supported by stone piers, and wooden posts that serve as stall dividers.
