Description
The South Stable Range at Llangybi Castle Farm is a two-storey building dating from the 19th century. The front and sides are rendered, likely over local sandstone rubble, which is visible on the rear wall. It features a concrete interlocking tile roof and has a balanced facade, although it has undergone some alterations.
The central entrance is a square-headed arch, with stables located to the left and coach-houses to the right. On the left side, there are two cross-framed casements and a central doorway with a panelled door and a rectangular overlight above it. Above the door, there are four bullseyes and a central arch-headed opening. The coach-houses on the right have corrugated iron doors, with bullseyes above them and a square-headed opening leading to the hayloft. The roof is hipped over the entire structure, and the gables and rear elevation are blind, except for the bullseyes.
Inside, the stables retain their Victorian fittings, including looseboxes and stalls, along with a tiled floor. Although the upper floor was not inspected, it is likely to have a large span principal rafter roof with collars, ties, and three tiers of purlins, similar to the north range.
