Description
Wye Bridge is a Grade II listed structure built of red and buff sandstone ashlar, featuring significant patching. The bridge has five arched spans, with the original pointed arches visible underneath, although both faces are covered by segmental arches supported by sharply pointed cutwaters. Corbel brackets hold up altered parapet walls on either side. Between each arch, there are projecting features topped with pyramid finials, and an additional finial in the center of the bridge on the upstream side carries an inscription. The inscription reads, "This bridge was widened 1879 from designs by the County Surveyor, David Roberts Contractor." On the east side, there is a long approach causeway, and the bridge has been slightly shortened at the west end.
