Description

Castle Terrace, numbers 33a-47, is a terrace of Georgian houses located on the sloped road between Wye Bridge and the town centre. Each house is single fronted, three storeys high with a cellar, and features one window on each floor. The walls are scored and painted roughcast, topped with slate roofs and narrow brick stacks at the divisions. The upper floor windows typically consist of 3/6-pane sashes set in reveals, while the first floor windows are usually 6/6-pane sashes. The ground floor windows are generally segmental bows with small panes, fixed but including single-pane opening lights, and there are deep plinths below. The panelled doors are set in wooden door cases on the left, some featuring rectangular overlights and shallow wooden hoods on brackets, most of which are decorated with fretwork. Despite some alterations and variations in dimensions, the overall effect remains symmetrical.
