Description
Castle Terrace, numbers 33a-47, is a terrace of Georgian houses located on the slope of the road between Wye Bridge and the town centre. Each house is single fronted, with three storeys and a cellar, featuring one window on each floor. The walls are scored and painted roughcast, topped with slate roofs and narrow brick stacks at the divisions.
The upper floor windows typically consist of 3/6-pane sashes set in reveals, while the first floor windows are generally 6/6-pane sashes. The ground floor windows are usually segmental bows with small panes, fixed but including single-pane opening lights, and there are deep plinths below. The panelled doors are set in wooden door cases to the left, with some featuring rectangular overlights and shallow wooden hoods on brackets, many of which are enhanced with fretwork. Despite some alterations in detail and variations in dimensions, the overall effect remains symmetrical.
The terrace has an artificial slate roof, and there have been alterations to the first and second floor windows and doors.
