Description
St Ann's is a house with medieval origins that has been converted into a complex of six flats. It is constructed from roughly coursed and dressed stone rubble, topped with a machine-tile and slate roof. The building features a central projecting cross wing, with a single bay wing on either side and a carriage archway below. It stands two storeys high with a basement.
The central gable displays paired sash windows in exposed wooden frames, with 12 panes on the first floor and 18 panes on the ground floor, both topped with shallow rectangular dripmoulds. There is a small cusped early light in the apex of the gable. The left wing is scored rendered and features an elliptical archway with wooden double gates and an overlight with glazing bars, along with a room above that has a two-light casement window. The right wing has a similar paired sash window beneath a relieving arch, above a square-headed doorway that includes a panelled door set in a recess, framed by a wooden doorcase with reeded jambs and lintel, and a moulded wooden hood supported by console brackets. Steps lead down to an arched basement doorway set in a plinth course.
In the side courtyard elevation of the main range, visible through the carriage entrance, there is a medieval stone two-light trefoil-headed window with hollow chamfering at first floor level. The wings at the rear have been incorporated into the dwellings, and the gable end faces the castle.
