Description
8 Middle Street is a former set of cottages that have been converted into a shop, situated between houses on different streets. The building is constructed of stone rendered with stucco and features a steep-pitched roof made of artificial slate, along with tall brick chimneys. It has two storeys and a total of six windows.
The frontage facing Middle Street includes a tall corniced lateral red brick chimney and a three-window arrangement of 12-pane sash windows, which are stepped back to the right. There is an exposed stone round doorway that is flanked by 20th-century windows, and a large shop window that has been blocked with an advertisement.
On the Upper Church Street side, which has a separate roof, there is a three-window arrangement of 3/6 pane sashes on the first floor. The ground floor features a deep corner casement, three moulded doorcases with small hoods—one filled with books, one marked with the number 17, and two windows that are partially blocked with fixed glazing. The doors have moulded cases and shallow bracketed hoods.
Inside, some of the original cottage partitions have been retained.
