Description
The Town Gate is a medieval structure made of rubble stone with ashlar dressings. The main outward-facing side features a wide pointed arch that has been widened, along with an embattled and coped parapet supported by a corbel table. There are three decorative carved stone heraldic tablets, with the central one being restored, renewed, and painted. Below these tablets, two restored lancet windows with glazing bars are located above the main pointed central arch. On the inward-facing side, there are two small 19th-century oculi with brick surrounds, a similar archway, and an additional smaller side arch that spans the footway on the north side. Access to the room above the gate is provided by a stone spiral staircase.
