Description

This building, located at numbers 22, 23, and 23a, serves as a corner shop, offices, and accommodation. Numbers 22 and 23, which have elevations facing Moor Street and Welsh Street, are combined into one premises, while number 23a, which fronts Moor Street, is a separate shop with additional businesses and offices above, also accessible from the rear lane. The structure has a double-pile plan and is positioned at a corner with a curved angle. The walls are roughcast rendered with applied timbering, and it features a steeply pitched slate roof, partly artificial, with swept eaves and a hipped corner that is set back behind a parapet from the curved frontage. The roof includes a central stone ridge stack at the property division and rendered end stacks on the left.

The building stands three storeys tall with a cellar, presenting a total of seven windows on the first floor and six on the second, two of which face Welsh Street. The first floor has 6-pane sash windows, while the second floor features 4-pane casements and one 9-pane sash window. The Victorian shop fronts are adorned with cornices: number 22 showcases clustered columns at each end, a cast iron column inside, curved multipane windows, and a wide recessed doorway leading to Welsh Street, along with a curved fascia and deep moulded hood. Number 23 displays decorative spandrels above a plate glass window divided by a half-round mullion, complemented by a narrow decorative frieze. Number 23a has a panelled shopfront with a rounded corner mullion, a recessed door with panelled reveals, pilasters, and a bracketed fascia. The Welsh Street frontage features a wide doorway with a recessed door and a cambered arched window beside it. The rear elevation is topped with a machine-tile roof.
