Description
Nos. 18-22 (even) Drybridge Street are two-storey buildings with attics, featuring rendered and painted elevations, possibly over timber-framing, and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The structure is arranged in a three-unit single depth range parallel to the street, with later extensions at the rear. The first floor has seven windows in total, while the ground floor includes three windows and three doors arranged as follows: window, door, window, door, door, window. The doors are 6-panel designs, with No. 18 featuring a spiders-web fanlight and the others having 3-pane overlights. The first-floor windows are all 6 over 6 pane sashes. The roof is very steeply pitched, with three gabled dormers that have 2 + 2 pane casements, the dormer for No. 18 being smaller. There are three stacks: one on the left ridge, located on the front slope between Nos. 18 and 20, and another truncated stack on the right gable.
The rear elevation displays a 17th-century wing on the left, which is shared by Nos. 20 and 22, and a lower rear wing for No. 18 that may date from the 19th century. Inside, there is a large stone fireplace from around 1600 with a chamfered surround in the front room. The first floor retains parts of a late 18th-century staircase. The roof structure consists of a complete principal rafter roof with a ridgepiece, and the rear wing features a heavy queen post roof along with a probable 17th-century fireplace with an oak lintel. Some plain joinery from around 1800 is also present.
