Description
Abergwenllan is a house that is part rendered and painted, built over local rubble stone, and topped with a Welsh slate roof. It is a one-and-a-half storey central entry house with a symmetrical facade that resembles an early 19th century estate cottage, although its history suggests otherwise. The central porch features an arched head and a steep gable roof, which houses a panelled door. On either side of the porch are 2 over 2 pane sash windows, with two additional sash windows in gabled half dormers above. The gables have fretted bargeboards. The roof has a slight bell-cast, indicating heightening, and there are stone end stacks; the left stack is a stepped external stack from the 17th century, while the right stack is a later addition, evident from the smooth render of the wall at that point. The right gable has two 6 over 6 pane casements above a single storey lean-to, which is constructed in two phases and has two 20th century windows. At the rear, there is a full width outshut with a catslide roof.
The interior was not available for inspection during the resurvey. Previous reports by Fox, Raglan, and Smith mentioned a post-and-panel screen, but it is unclear if this feature still exists.
