Description
The North Churchyard Cross at the Church of St Peter is a stone-built cross featuring a base made of three square diminishing steps constructed from thin coursed rubble, topped with paving stones. These steps date from around 1932. They support a socket stone that likely originates from the 15th century, which carries a square shaft that quickly tapers to an octagonal shape, ultimately supporting a cross. Only the bottom portion of this shaft is medieval. There is a copper plate inscription affixed to the socket stone that reads: "This churchyard cross was rebuilt on its original base in commemoration of the faithful services of the Rev. Henry Charles Penoyre Belcher MA. Rector of this parish 1919-1932."
