Description

Nos. 1&2 White House

Rendered building, built presumably of local rubblestone, with Welsh slate gabled roof. Two storey range, double depth plan with some single storey extensions. Each house has a front of three bays; paired centre doorways, with an apparently concrete columned porch with wrought iron railing above. Sash windows with 6 over 6 panes and horns. Two ridge stacks to each house. A aerial photograph of c1920 shows that this building was one house with an addition, one taken in 1948 shows the building with a flat roof, presumably following bomb damage by the land-mine which fell in the churchyard immediately to the rear in January 1941. The building was replanned after WWII and divided equally in two with the central doors and porches; while previously there had been a thee bay central entrance part to the left and a two bay addition to the right. The left part previously had dormers and the right part single sashes, so it can be seen that the present appearance is only an approximation of the pre-war one.

The left-hand house of a pair, see above. The left gable looking onto the lychgate has a c1920 lattice window with stone surround.

Interior not inspected at resurvey.
