Description
The garden wall of Nos. 1 and 2 The White House dates from the 20th century and encloses the properties on their south-west, north-west, and north-east sides. It is constructed of stone rubble and is colour-washed. The north-east side is reinforced with buttresses and has been repaired in places with brickwork. On the south-west side, which borders The Cathedral Green, the wall features brick coping. In front of No. 2, the wall includes a brick round-headed gateway with a keystone, rough brick pilasters, and flat ashlar coping. This arch aligns with the paired entrances that were added in the 1950s, although it is visible in pre-war photographs. The wall is lower in front of No. 1, which has a post-war carriage opening.
