Description

Ifton Hill House is a two-storey house built from roughly coursed sandstone and topped with a Bridgewater tile roof. It features a rectangular three-unit layout with a single depth cross-passage and has undergone later additions. The front elevation has the left-hand room concealed behind Dairy Cottage. The main facade includes a door with a rectangular light above it, a three-light timber mullion-and-transom window above, and another three-light window below. There is also a cross-framed casement window on the return. The openings on the front are framed in red brick, and the roof is hipped with a truncated stack on the left side.

Next to the entrance of the cross-passage is a panelled door with a flat hood. To the right of this door is a blind wall, possibly concealing a blocked window, followed by a small single-light window and a three-light timber window, with three cross-framed casements above. The arrangement of these windows indicates alterations, including another small blocked window between the two right-hand upper ones. There are two ridge stacks: one at the back of the cross-passage for the hall and another on the right gable for the kitchen. The left gable end is part of The Old Cottage, while the right gable is blind except for a tiny garret window. The rear elevation is partially obscured by Dairy Cottage on the left and The Old Cottage on the right. On the ground floor, there is a three-light timber casement window to the left, a modern part-glazed door, a modern casement in the blocked cross-passage doorway, and another three-light casement. The upper floor features three cross-framed casements and a small modern window.

Internally, the house has been significantly altered. The cross-passage is blocked, and the old kitchen has a reconstructed fireplace. The hall contains a fireplace with massive jambs and a lintel that is broken in two. The roof was not visible but is likely similar to the principal rafter type found in The Old Cottage, which includes part of the main range roof.
