Description
The stable and cartshed at Pont-yr-ychain Farm is a building featuring a mix of Flemish and English garden wall bond brickwork, topped with a hipped corrugated asbestos roof. The symmetrical east front has two storeys, with dentil eaves and a string course at the first-floor level. The central bay projects slightly forward; the first floor includes a square boarded opening with a segmental arch made of brick voussoirs. On the ground floor, there is a similar but taller opening with an unglazed three-light window below and brick infill topped with a wooden louvre above. The side walls flanking the central bay have large segmental brick arches for cartshed openings on the ground floor. The left archway is filled with boarded double doors and a rectangular overlight. Each side of the upper floor features a large circular opening with brick voussoirs.
The left and central bays are lofted, separated by a ground-floor partition that divides the stable from the cartshed. The roof has four bays supported by collar and tie-beam trusses. The central space may have originally served as a tack room.
