Description
This is a drinking trough and associated boundary wall dating to the 18th century, situated opposite the main entrance gateway to Tal-y-coed Court. The boundary wall is curved, constructed from rubble stone laid in random courses, and it curves inwards to the central ornamental drinking trough. The rectangular trough is raised on stone blocks at each end, and its faces are decorated with gadrooning. A shaped headstone is set into the back wall, featuring a floral spray at the top and two encircled rosettes below. Above the spout is a carved scroll displaying the Welsh motto “DWER IN RHYDD BAWP” which translates to ‘Water is free to everybody’.
