Description

Abergavenny United Reformed Church features a rendered and painted facade topped with a natural slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with a gable end facing the street. Its three-bay pedimented temple front includes minimal pilasters and a cornice. The central entrance is flanked by three round-headed windows; the outer windows are full height, while the center window is shorter and positioned above the entrance. The entrance has double panelled doors and a basic Tuscan porch with a heavy entablature. The windows are 12 over 16 pane sashes, with the center window being a fixed 8-pane window, all adorned with interlace heads. The line of the gallery floor is visible across the windows just below the meeting rail. The pediment features a circular plaque with the inscription 'FOUNDED 1690', and the roof has a plain low pitch that aligns with the pediment. The side elevations are completely obscured by adjacent buildings, and the rear elevation is plain.

Inside, the church has a square space with a flat ceiling and galleries on three sides. The galleries have panelled fronts and are supported by plain cast iron Tuscan columns. There is an altered glazed lobby beneath the entrance gallery. While modern chairs are present in the main space, the original benches are still retained in the galleries. A high seat with a double stair features balusters of turned knops and mahogany rails, although the front rail has been altered.
