Description
The School Room, formerly part of Abergavenny Congregational Church, features a rendered and painted facade topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with a gable end facing the street. Its three-bay front is pedimented and resembles the adjoining chapel, though it is simpler, with minimal pilasters and a cornice. The central entrance is flanked by three round-headed windows; the outer windows are full height, while the center window is shorter and positioned above the doorway. The entrance has plain double doors with a two-light transom and a basic Tuscan-style pilastered surround, with "THE SCHOOL ROOM" inscribed on the entablature. The windows consist of two sets of three panes, with the center window having only two panes. A round window is located in the pediment, and the roof has a low pitch that aligns with the pediment line. The rear elevation features three tall windows that match those at the front.
Internally, the building has been altered with the addition of an upper floor and staircase, and it now functions as modern offices, with no historic features observed during the resurvey.
