Description
The Bedwas Balti Restaurant, The Indian Cottage, and Bridge Cottage is a vernacular house consisting of three distinct sections. The left portion is a two-storey whitewashed range with later 19th-century rubble. The central section features a gabled wing that projects forward, while the right side has a one-storey plus attic range. The main part of the building has a roof covered with shaped slate tiles (previously stone slates) to the north, which includes a single swept dormer head and four rendered chimney stacks with wide drip courses. The southern gable end is shortened and has a projecting chimney breast with a small two-light upper window to the right.
The main front range displays paired upper casement windows that rise through the eaves and have broad sills. There is a ground floor doorway to the lower left with a four-panel door behind a metal grille. The projecting front wing features rubble quoins and a plain tripartite timber window above a symmetrical shop front that includes a central door beneath an overall fascia. The northern range has casement windows in a single dormer and modern ground-floor openings. The property includes a stone-walled forecourt and a yard at the rear.
Although not inspected in December 1998, it is reported that the interior retains a thick dividing wall with a stopped and chamfered beam and bread ovens at the northeast end, along with a stone-flagged floor.
