Description
Nos 1 and 2 The Lawn is a large house built in the Regency style, which has now been divided into two separate dwellings. The exterior is cement-rendered and features a hipped, shallow-pitched roof made of asbestos slate, along with deep overhanging eaves supported by brackets. A long, narrow ridge stack is positioned at right angles to the front of the house. The building has two storeys and a cellar.
The front facade has a central range of two windows, with stepped back wings on either side that each contain a single window. There are single-storey rear wings that differ for each dwelling. Most of the windows are 12-pane sashes with sills. No.1, located downhill, has mostly UPVC window replacements, except for the main ground floor window, which is a tripartite sash. There is also a further tripartite sash window with 36 panes on the ground floor at the rear. No.2, located uphill, retains its original 12-pane sashes, although it has a replacement French window on the ground floor. Each house features a two-window range on the first floor at the rear.
At the front of No.1, there is a flat-roofed porch situated at the angle of the set-back wing, which has steps leading to the outer doorway that is framed by a corniced surround.
Inside, the layout follows a double depth plan. Some late Georgian features have been preserved, including six-panelled doors, door surrounds, panelled reveals, and shutters.
