Description

Ysgol Lawnt is a large detached house built in the Regency style, which has been converted into a school. The exterior is entirely rendered, showing signs of scoring, and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with a shallow pitch, terracotta ridge tiles, and deep overhanging boarded bracketed eaves. The chimneys have been removed. The building has a rectangular central block with a narrower cross rear wing that steps back on the uphill side. There is also a separately roofed narrow wing parallel to the frontage on the downhill side, along with further extensions that incorporate former outbuildings.

The former garden frontage displays a three-window range, with the first floor originally featuring 12-pane sash windows, of which one in the center has been retained. The ground floor likely had tripartite sash windows similar to those at The Lawn, but these have now been replaced. The central flat-roofed corniced porch has blind recesses with sills on either side of the doorway, and the side walls of the porch have small-pane fixed glazing, mostly original on the downhill side. The uphill side elevation retains tripartite windows on the main block and a four-window range of mostly 12-pane sashes on the rear wing. The first floor also has retained 12-pane sash windows on the downhill side elevation.

Inside, despite the conversion to a school, the layout remains intact with a central corridor leading to various rooms and a staircase at the rear. This staircase features turned newel posts, stick balusters, and a ramped handrail. Some rooms still have plaster cornice mouldings, moulded plaster panels and brackets, six-panelled doors with architraves, panelled reveals, and shutters.
