Description
The Fan House at Hetty Shaft is a single-storey structure built from snecked rock-faced stone. All openings are currently blocked and feature brick jambs with concrete sills and lintels. The building has a flat roof made of steel sheets. On the west side, there is a wide central doorway accessed by stone steps with concrete treads, flanked by windows. To the left of the doorway is a cylindrical fan casing, followed by a curved brick flue with a concrete roof. This flue contains steel trunking that is used to blow air into the shaft rather than draw it out. The east wall has three windows and a tall evasee at the north end, which includes two pairs of cover plates. The south wall features a doorway on the right with external steel steps and two windows. The building was inaccessible at the time of inspection.
