Description

Capel Ebenezer is a 19th-century (dated 1829) chapel, built in a classical style. The front facade is gabled and rendered, with a prominent cornice and channelled pilasters at the ends. The roof is slate, with a circular attic window, flanked by date and lettering, and decorated with keyblocks. The facade features semi-circular arched gallery windows with fluted pilasters, foliage capitals, keystones, and a sill band, fitted with horned sash windows incorporating marginal glazing bars. A distinctive lean-to lobby extends from the front, with three gables and a pediment created by the overall cornice. The gables are adorned with finials (one broken) and terracotta fleuron decoration. A central open porch is supported by a fluted, marble-effect cast iron column, and contains panelled doors at each end. The rear wall of the porch is rendered and includes a window with matching glazing. The outer bays of the facade have twin semi-circular arched windows in a similar style to those in the gallery. The porch floor is tiled and features a partially eroded stone tablet dated 9 October 1829. The side elevations are similarly rendered, with five bays of round arched gallery windows above square-headed windows.

A forecourt wall constructed from coursed rubble stone, with old railings retained to the right, stands before the chapel, with stone gate piers.

Inside, the galleried interior features a coved ceiling with two large plasterwork roses, which have radiating ribs to a boarded edge and a central band, and a dentil cornice. A raked gallery is supported on marble-effect cast iron columns, with a panelled front incorporating foliage ornament set into a darker wood. Quatrefoil panels decorate the organ recess above the 'set fawr' (important area), and the front of the platform also has panelling and balusters on the steps leading to the 'set fawr'.
