Description
The War Memorial features a white marble statue of a winged Victory, which is supported by a tapering pier made of polished dark grey granite. This pier stands on a three-tiered base, with each tier having a chamfered top edge and a stepped, moulded capstone. The names of the fallen are inscribed in gold lettering on all four sides of the pier. On the front (south) side, there is an inscription reading "1914 - 1918," and the top tier of the base bears the words "To the everlasting memory of those who fell in the Great War." A small bronze wreath is affixed to the bottom tier of the base.
The pier is enclosed within a small square area formed by polished granite kerb stones set on edge, with upright granite slabs at the cut-away angles and an additional slab on the north side. The south kerb of the enclosure features the inscription "1939 - 1945" and "To the memory of those who fell in the Second World War." The names of those who died are also listed on the four slabs at the angles, with the north slab dedicated to those who died in action in conflicts after the Second World War.
