Description
The Scott Memorial is a white-washed clock-tower lighthouse built on a rubble plinth designed to resemble loose rocks. The tower is round, tapering, and consists of three stages that sweep towards the base. At the top, there is a polygonal balcony that is cantilevered on brackets and features balustrading. Rising from the center is a square-section cupola that has a clock on each face, topped with a moulded capstone and dome, which supports a finial with a ship emblem.
On the south side, there is a plain boarded door that is partly cut in. Above this door, narrow rectangular four-pane windows are aligned on the second and third stages, with the same arrangement of windows present on the east, north, and west sides of the tower. Above the doorway, a gold-coloured metal plaque with scrolled edges commemorates Captain R.F. Scott and his faithful companions, who departed from the Port of Cardiff on June 15th, 1910, to find the South Pole and lost their lives in the Antarctic region in March 1912.
At the time of inspection on March 27, 2001, there was no access to the interior.
