Description
The War Memorial Cross is made of Portland stone and features a tapering shaft with chamfered angles and raised flat ends on its arms and head. The front of the cross displays a sword, likely made of bronze. It stands on a high octagonal base, which is set on a larger octagonal plinth that has an overhanging capping. The memorial is surrounded by paving, also in an octagonal shape. The base includes an inscription on three sides that reads, "This cross of sacrifice is one in design and intention with those which have been set up in France and Belgium and other places throughout the world where our dead of the Great War are laid to rest." It concludes with the phrase, "Their name liveth for evermore."
