Description
The "D" Shed is a former warehouse built in the mid-19th century. It features a slate roof and gables made of vertical boarding, with a blocked tripartite window. The structure has an iron frame construction consisting of five bays by two, supported by cruciform-sectioned Tuscan-style columns that hold up an I-beam entablature. The west side is clad in wooden boarding that mimics the original structure, complete with sliding doors, while the other sides are glazed. The roof is made of iron with closely spaced trusses and includes a system of narrow tie bars with V-shaped cast-iron stays bolted to the rafters. An early 21st-century extension at the southern end has a triangular plan and is constructed of metal and glass, reflecting the materials used in the original building.
