Description
The garden terrace and steps at Craig-y-parc are a notable feature, designed in an Italianate style and consisting of three levels. A wide flight of stone steps leads from the lawn to the atrium, with the lower steps extending outward beyond the walls. These walls are constructed of random rubble and topped with thin stone coping, which is adorned with urns at each end. A similar terrace rises behind, and the staircase continues, flanked by freestanding walls that incorporate box shrubs at two levels. On either side of the staircase, set back and parallel, are the returns of a limestone balustrade that runs across the entire terrace at the house level. This balustrade features vase balusters, a plinth next to the top terrace wall, and a shallow cornice, supported by widely spaced rectangular piers, with solid walls at the ends. Three nosed steps lead up to the atrium, and on either side against the house, there are low raised beds made of stone with flat stone coping.
