Description
The Newt & Cucumber is a three-storey building with an attic, featuring six windows. It is constructed of yellow brick with extensive bathstone dressings, which include window architraves, entablatures, and pilasters. The building has a bracketed cornice and a parapet that is interrupted by dormers with segmental pediments. On the top floor, the left bay contains a tripartite window, while the other bays have 2-light mullion and transom windows topped with curvilinear pediments. The first floor features an oriel window in the left bay, with the other bays having 3-light mullion and transom windows; however, the fourth bay has a 2-light window with a curved stone balcony. Below this, there is an entrance to the chambers, which is flanked by modernised shopfronts that are articulated by banded stone pilasters supporting a bracketed cornice. A similar architectural treatment is found on the left return in Bakers' Row.
