Description

This is a large, three-storey building of four windows, constructed in the 18th century. It is asymmetrical, with the right-hand window slightly set back. The building is made of red brick with decorative yellow brick banding under a slate roof. The roof has end stacks built of banded brickwork, and the eaves feature a decorative cornice with modillions. The windows have wedge-shaped lintels. A shop front is incorporated into the ground floor. The first-floor windows are tall wooden cross-windows with upper, top-hung sections, likely replacing earlier sash windows. The second-floor windows are six-over-six pane sashes. The painted shop front has large arched openings flanked by pairs of pilasters with rosette-decorated capitals, supporting an impost band. A dentilled cornice is supported by pairs of large, scrolled brackets (single at each end). A round-arched doorway is located to the left of centre, with a glazed door and plain overlight, flanked by plate-glass windows with small arched tops. To the right, a later projecting shop front obscures the original arch. This projecting shop front is slightly canted and has a hipped slate roof with a splayed, inset central entrance, a glazed door with decorative margin glazing under a plain overlight, and flanking plate-glass windows featuring narrow mullions, a high transom, and coloured glazing bearing a shop sign. The north gable end features a six-over-six pane sash window, offset to the left on the second floor, with a lower building adjoining it beneath. The rear of the property is not visible. The interior has not been inspected.
