Description

The monument comprises a clock tower, horse trough, and drinking fountain, incorporating Jacobean decorative details. It is a three-stage tower, each stage narrower than the one below, featuring diagonal buttresses. The construction uses banded masonry, with the lower stage built of grey and red masonry and the upper stages of yellow and red sandstone ashlar. Jacobean details include volutes and strapwork motifs.

The front face of the lower stage has a recessed round arch with pointed stone voussoirs, to which a water spout shaped like a winged beast is attached. Directly below is a large stone water trough. The rear has a narrow, boarded door under a shouldered head, accessed by two curved steps; a small stone basin is attached to the north-west angle at mid-level. The east and west sides each have a central angle buttress flanked by small rectangular lights with hollow mouldings, below which are low stone seats. A moulded string course runs along the second stage, with the diagonal buttresses ending in pinnacles featuring recessed panels and bulbous finials.

Shallow Dutch gables, with volutes and strapwork motifs, are present on each face, with those on the front and rear displaying shields: a lion on the front, and a castle on the rear. Above these gables, raised rectangular panels bear a red sandstone bust of a man on the front and an inscription on the rear, reading 'Erected AD 1883 / to commemorate / Joseph Peers / Clerk of the Peace for the County of Denbigh'.

High central angle buttresses on the east and west sides support stone statues of a robed figure and a knight, respectively, with small lancets flanked by quarry glazing. A moulded string course marks the third stage, with each face narrower; the front and rear faces feature a clock within a square panel, with a shield and strapwork motifs above. The east and west faces each have a gable with a triangular pediment, beneath which are pairs of small round-headed lancets with roundels above.

Pinnacles are located at the angles of the monument, surmounted by beasts holding shields. The front and rear faces culminate in a domed ogee roof with a dentilled eaves cornice, the apex featuring a ball finial topped with a weather vane, and ball finials at the angles.
