Description

The Annexe of Castle Hotel is a symmetrical, two-storey building with a three-window front, dating from the 18th century. The lower storey is stuccoed over a stone plinth, while the upper storey features roughcast. The building has a slate roof and roughcast brick end stacks. The gable ends are also roughcast, and there is an adjoining single-storey wing to the right. At the rear, there are full-height stone outshuts.

The front of the building has Tuscan pilasters at the quoins and flanking openings, with the quoins and former entrance being paired and banded. These architectural features support a pronounced moulded string course and a triangular pediment above the former entrance. The ground floor has wooden cross windows with diamond leaded glazing, likely from the 20th century, beneath which is a continuous sill band. The upper storey features plain quoin strips and 24-pane hornless sash windows set in shaped architraves with moulded segmental heads.

On the east gable end, there is a narrow 18-pane sash window offset to the left on the upper storey. The full-height outshut at the rear is advanced at the centre and further advanced to the right; the upper storey includes a sash window and a lateral stack in the centre, while the lower storey connects to the Castle Hotel. The left-hand return of the outshut has a small-pane casement.

The single-storey wing to the east is constructed of random stone under a slate roof, with an offset at mid-level on the south front, which may have originally served as a boundary wall and has no openings. The east gable end features two cross-windows, with the northeast angle canted, and the rear has a three-light transomed wooden window. The interior has not been seen.
