Description

Pentrebane Farmhouse is a two-storey, double-fronted house built of blue lias limestone rubble with some red brick dressings, mostly covered in cement render. It features Welsh slate roofs with red brick stacks. The main block faces south and includes a two-storey porch, a kitchen wing, and a service yard at the rear.

The south elevation has five bays arranged in a pattern of 2 + 1 + 2, with a central gabled projection that contains the porch. Most windows are 6 over 6 pane sashes, except for the first-floor right window, which is 2 over 2. The entrance is located in the right-hand return of the projection and features a 4-panel door leading to a 6-panel door with the upper four panels glazed, which is the pre-Victorian front door. Above the entrance is a 3-pane rectangular light. The roof has a low pitch and scalloped bargeboards on the gable.

The right return of the house is completely covered in ivy, while the left return shows an inserted 4 over 4 pane sash window on the ground floor. The kitchen wing has a mid-20th century doorway and window on the left, and a 6 over 6 pane sash window on the right, with 20th-century windows flanking a small-paned casement above the left gable stack.

Inside, the main entrance leads to a tiled hall with a staircase that appears to be a mix of 18th century and Victorian styles. The staircase has a closed string, projecting moulded tread ends, stick balusters, and turned newels. The upper flight has been modified with an additional stair rail to narrow it. The layout consists of a basic four-room plan, with an arched buffet alcove in the dining room and panelled shutters in the ground floor rooms. There is also one 2-panel door upstairs that may date back to the early 18th century.
