Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Castle Street is a building from the 18th century featuring a front in smooth render, complete with a parapet and cornice. The structure has three storeys and generally showcases metal casement glazing with glazing bars. On the eastern side, there is a block with two small windows on the second floor, a Venetian window on the first floor, and four round-headed shop windows on the ground floor. The main block consists of five bays, with four square windows on the second floor. The first floor has five windows, with the outer windows set in round-headed arches and the centre window recessed within a tall arch that rises to the attic level. The ground floor features a rectangular doorway in the centre, flanked by two round-headed shop windows. To the east of this, there is a bay with a cornice and parapet at the same height, which has one window on both the first and second floors and two round-headed shop windows on the ground floor.
Inside, there is a lobby with plate glass shop windows on each side. At the rear, a circular top-lit hall contains an elegant 1930s style cantilevered spiral stair, which has a solid rendered parapet and a bronze handrail featuring an "M" monogram for Mount Stuart.
