Description
Ty-capel is a building featuring walling of cement render on rubble and brick, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has a symmetrical one-storey front designed in a late classical style, originally built as a traditional chapel, which has since been converted into two storeys. The façade includes an impost band that connects narrow windows to a central pair of round-headed windows with key blocks, featuring small pane coloured glazing. Oculi are present above twin gabled porches that have cast copings and kneelers, with yellow and blue brick facings and arched doorways. A moulded plaque at the center of the front is inscribed with '1837/Tabernacle Presbyterian/1900'. The pitched roof is adorned with tile crestings, and the gable-end parapets have gable kneelers over plain pilasters, with a brick stack located to the left. The gable end has two modern sash windows. The rear elevation now displays two storeys, featuring three 6 over 6 pane sashes on the first floor and a large external stack.
The interior was not seen during the resurvey, but the conversion to a house included the insertion of a floor. It is unclear what interior features, if any, from the original listing in 1989 may still be present. At that time, the interior was described as plain, with a moulded cornice (including egg and dart), ribbed panels on the ceiling, and a ribbed and boarded center with a timber rose containing paterae. There was also a panelled pulpit front with balustered railings leading to stairs and an enclosure for a 'big seat'.
