Description
The colonnade and gateways at the south end of Queen Anne Square are designed in a simple classical style and date from the 18th century. The structure consists of two gateways with a colonnade in between, made of brick with freestone dressings. Each gateway features square brick piers with angle pilasters, topped with garlanded urns on capstones. The outer sides have a coped wall that slopes down to a lower wall, which includes pedestrian side gates and ends in a square pier with a stone cap. The pedestrian gateways are adorned with flat brick arches that have keystones. The five-bay freestone Tuscan colonnade includes four pairs of columns and a moulded entablature that is also topped by urns. Each bay between the columns features simple ironwork railings with dog bars.
